Biography

Professor Rabiu Mohammed Sani is a distinguished agricultural economist with over 30 years of academic and research experience. Born in Futuk, Bauchi State, Nigeria, he earned his PhD in Agricultural Economics from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, following an M.Sc. from the Agricultural Institute in Odessa, Ukraine. Since beginning his career in 1994, Professor Sani has held progressive academic positions at ATBU, culminating in his current role as Professor.

His research spans resource management, environmental sustainability, agricultural financing, and value chain development, with a particular focus on rural livelihoods and climate resilience in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa. He has published extensively, authoring over 70 journal articles and several books, and has supervised more than 60 postgraduate theses.

Professor Sani's expertise extends to consultancy on major development projects, including the World Bank’s FADAMA program and the TRIMING irrigation initiative. He is an active member of numerous professional societies, including the African Association of Agricultural Economists and the International Association of Agricultural Economists.

Known for his commitment to bridging research and policy, Professor Sani has contributed to agricultural development through extensive teaching, research, and advisory roles. His work consistently aims to empower smallholder farmers and agribusinesses for sustainable growth and food security in Nigeria.
